Hector's Charity Fundraising
The Lions were contacted by the parents of 7 year old Hector Perkins of Aldershot recently asking if he could raise funds for the Lions and the Community Grub Hub in Aldershot.
Hector had been motivated to raise £5,000 in 2025 to be shared between both charities after seeing their good work within the community helping those who have fallen on difficult times.
The Community Grub Hub (CGH) work is dedicated to alleviating poverty in Rushmoor, offering food and social support services to those in need in a friendly and caring way,
On hearing about Hector's ambition, Farnborough & Aldershot Lions arranged for Hector to visit the CGH in Windsor Way Aldershot during the school holidays. Two members of Aldershot Lions Club helped set up the Hub in 2012, so the Lions know the centre well.
Lion President Chris Seabrook and Lion Carol Cross met Hector in the collection bay and CGH Director Steve Baxerdale gave him a "Junior Fundraiser" VIP tour. They went on to discuss how to work together with the Farnborough & Aldershot Lions Club and the Community Grub Hub to achieve this ambitious total. Amongst the ideas are:
* Having a table top sale selling his old toys.
* Organising a fundraising football competition.
* Holding a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.
* Persuading friends and family to donate money.
* Requesting food and cash donations instead of presents for his 8th birthday in July.
